Ep 70: 3 Mistakes You're Making As An Online Business Owner

Welcome to this episode of The Legal Paige podcast.  In today’s episode, I want to dive into the three big things I wish someone more experienced and wiser would have put in my head as the mistakes I should steer away from or acknowledge exist in my role as the CEO of my business.

Things we talk about:

  • Not putting pricing first and really looking into our expenses.

  • Thinking Social Media is the Be-ALL-End all of your marketing.

  • The importance of legit contracts, having them up to date, and how you send them out.

  • A bonus tip... filling up your own cup and taking time for you.

  • That this is all apart of growing as a business owner.

Here are a few quotes:

"Ok mistake number one you might be making as an online business owner… not putting pricing first!  Get out a pen and paper and figure out the hours you put into the entirety of the services your providing and then figure out how much you want to get paid for that.  Also, what is your overhead costs?!  Computer, software, printing, contractors you hire, outsourcing editing, etc etc. All that factors into your pricing structure."

"Don’t let that fear hold you back, why?  Because like I said viewers go to each platform for a different reason so what you create on one platform you can duplicate use on another and slightly tailor it for that platform!  That way you’re not coming up with new ideas for each platform but you are tailoring it so the viewers over on YouTube let’s say for example are getting exactly what they want to see from your content!"

"As an online business owner making sure that for one we have legitimate contracts that protect us and our businesses.  There are contracts needed for everything and it’s important to make sure everything is laid out in writing.  That way there can never be grey areas when it comes to questions or expectations from your client.  It’s also super important to review these contracts periodically, and make sure that they are up to date.  Maybe your payment section has changed, or you have added in more services, the list goes on and on.  And as COVID is still affecting our day to day operations for some online business owners making sure that your contract is up to date with COVID is also extremely important."
